The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol provides a standardised framework for companies and countries to measure, report and mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions.
- Helps organisations identify emissions sources, set reduction targets and implement mitigation strategies
- Enables companies to benchmark their performance, track progress, and make informed decisions towards sustainability goals
What are the standards for companies and organisations?
The Corporate Standard 🌿
ghg-protocol-corporate-standard.pdf
⇒ Provides guidance to prepare a corporate-level GHG inventory
- Needs to cover the accounting and reporting of all 7 greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol

💡 Aims:
- classify your company’s emissions into Scopes 1, 2 and 3
- divide your GHG footprint into both direct and indirect emissions
- set a base year that your emission reduction goals can be set against
- identify the most prominent emission sources from your business operations
- understand the best tools for calculating your emissions footprint
- deal with complex company structures and shared ownership
- ensure that your emissions reporting is verifiable
- understand how to set an emissions reduction target

The Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard 🌿
ghg-protocol-corporate-value-chain.pdf
⇒ Allows to assess emissions across your company’s entire value chain and to identify emissions hotspot - focused on helping you to identify emissions that your company is responsible for outside of its own walls and direct activities
- Not enough to measure only emissions from your own operations and electricity consumption - we need to take into account the emissions due to the goods you purchase or the disposal of the product you sell

💡 The majority of your company’s emissions come from Scope 3 sources
